Campbell’s Championship begins July 9

Grass-court season for the professional tennis tours officially got underway this month, and soon some of the top players on the ATP World Tour will pack up their tennis bags and head to Newport to the Campbell’s Hall of Fame Tennis Championships. The event is the only pro tournament played on grass courts in North America. It will be hosted July 9-15 at the International Tennis Hall of Fame.

This year’s tournament promises to deliver incredible action as it features one of the strongest player fields ever to come to Newport. Committed players include world No. 10 and No. 1 American John Isner; 11-time Grand Slam champions, the Bryan Brothers; Japan’s Kei Nishikori and Canada’s Milos Raonic, both ranked in the world top-25; and Aussie tennis great and former world No. 1 Lleyton Hewitt.

Off the courts, great special events including tennis clinics, a fashion show and a militaryappreciation day complement the action. Topping it all off will be the ITHF’s annual induction ceremony on July 14, in which the highest honor in tennis will be presented to former world No. 1s Jennifer Capriati and Guga Kuerten, Spanish tennis great Manuel Orantes, tennis industry innovator Mike Davies, and wheelchair tennis champion Randy Snow, who will be inducted posthumously.

The weekend will also offer a rare chance to see some of the Hall of Famers, including Kuerten, back in action in the Hall of Fame Exhibition Match on July 15. Tickets for the tournament and all special events are available now on by calling 849-6053.

Festivities begin on July 7 with family weekend. A highlight of the event will be a special appearance by the Rossetti Brothers, the dynamic duo who set the Guinness World Record for the longest tennis rally ever – 24,944 strokes. The brothers will perform at 11 a.m. on July 7 and July 8.
