Another great summer unfolds in Jamestown

Hopefully most islanders had a chance to take in the America’s Cup World Series this past week. It was an exciting event that showcased the Narragansett Bay area. The race even made national television.

The action continues this weekend with sailing ships, fireworks and music.

The Ocean State Tall Ships Festival returns to Narragansett Bay for the first time in several years. Fourteen stately heritage sailing vessels arrive in Newport on Friday, July 5, for the weekend event. The festival’s highlight will be the Parade of Sail on Monday, July 9, when the ships leave Newport Harbor and sail up Narragansett Bay. Of course, one of the prime viewing areas will be the shoreline of East Ferry.

The evening of Saturday, July 7, is also a good time to visit East Ferry when the Jamestown Rocket ’hogs will put on their annual fireworks show. The annual event includes music before the show. This year the fireworks will be launched from a barge in the harbor. You should be able to see the fireworks along the shore from the Conanicut Yacht Club to Green’s Pier.

On Sunday, July 8, the annual Jamestown Summer Concert Series kicks off at East Ferry. The band 5 Finger Discount will perform from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public. Bring your blankets and lawn chairs and have a good time.

Have a great weekend!
