Fireworks Saturday at East Ferry
The annual display of fireworks in Jamestown will be staged on Saturday, July 7, at East Ferry. The Rocket ’hogs, organizers of the event, say it should be one of the best pyrotechnical shows in recent memory.
Bob Bailey, one of the volunteer Rocket ’hogs, said activities are expected start about 7:30 p.m. with a concert featuring the legendary Jamestown Community Band. Also performing is the popular blues band Ryan Hartt and the Blue Hearts. The two musical groups will rotate sets at Veterans Memorial Square at East Ferry. People are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs and enjoy the show.
The fireworks will be launched from a barge at East Ferry beginning at dusk – or roughly 9 p.m.
Bailey said the best viewing area for the fireworks should be from the Conanicut Yacht Club to Green’s Pier because of the curve of the harbor.
“We’d like to urge people to have dinner in town and then come down to the waterfront and enjoy the fireworks,” Bailey said.
Bailey reminded everyone that the fireworks are funded solely through donations. If you would like to make a contribution, checks may be mailed to Jamestown Rocket ’hogs, P.O. 1776, Jamestown, RI 02835. Remember, send them your money and they will blow it up!
