WORLD SERIES CHAMPS
Oracle Team USA, skippered by James Spithill (left), became the winner of the inaugural America’s Cup World Series following its performances in Narragansett Bay over the weekend. Spithill’s boat came into the Newport event on top of the standings, and held onto its slim lead. Oracle’s 102 points – 47 from match racing, 55 from fleet racing – was nine points ahead of runner-up Emirates Team New Zealand. The other American boat – skippered by Russell Coutts – won the match racing in Newport, but finished the World Series in fifth overall out of nine teams.
