Decoupage artisan to visit Cottage & Garden

John Derian, one of the country’s leading crafters of decoupage – the art of decorating surfaces by applying cutouts from paper and then coating in several layers with varnish – will make an appearance at Newport’s Cottage & Garden on Thursday, July 19, from 6 to 8 p.m. The New York City-based artist has been featured in the New York Times, Elle Décor, House Beautiful, Vanity Fair and Bon Appétit.

“I’m passionate about anything created by hand and in sharing those with people who are captivated by artisans and their work,” said Derian, who grew up in the Boston area.

Color reprints of 18th and 19th century images that are delicately cut and thoughtfully pieced together under glass form his line of plates, vases, trays, paperweights, cachepots, wall hangings and desk accessories.

Derian’s items are sold exclusively in Newport at Cottage & Garden. Light refreshments will be served. To RSVP, call 848-8477.
