Litter team begins picking up island

The Jamestown Youth Litter and Conservation Team recently began work for the 2012 season, which spans from late June until September, as well as during town events in October and November.

The team this year consists of nine members between the ages of 15 and 17. They are Garret Bucklin, Hayley Carlisle, Grant Gillis, Graham Jamison, Charlie Keen, Marc LaFlamme, Austin Turillo, and Antonio and Dmitrie Varrecchione. Graham and Marc are the team’s supervisors.

The litter team is led by Bonnie Jamison, who created the group in 1999. Its mission is to clean up Jamestown, usually by removing litter from the beaches or preserving cleanliness on the streets. In addition to picking up litter, the team maintains the conservation aspect by making signs that discourage littering and placing trash and recycling bins around the island.
