Eleanor C. Gravdahl
A memorial service celebrating the life of Eleanor C. Gravdahl will be held at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church on Friday, Aug. 10, at 1:30 p.m. A reception for friends and family will be held at Conanicut Yacht Club following the service. Casual dress is appropriate. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Newport Hospital Foundation or the Jamestown EMS.
Rev. Parker was a 1958 graduate of Gordon Divinity School and was ordained at Park Street Baptist Church in Framingham in 1959. He served the following churches: United Church of West Pawlet in Vermont; First Baptist Church of Manchester Center in Vermont; First Baptist Church of Bellingham in Massachusetts; First Baptist Church of North Kingstown; and Bethany Baptist Church when he retired from full-time ministry. He was also the interim pastor at First Baptist Church of Lonsdale in Lincoln, and First Baptist Church of West Warwick.
Rev. Parker was a U.S. Army veteran from 1946 to 1948 and was a chaplain in the Civil Air Patrol. He also was a counselor for Alcoholics Anonymous.
Besides his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Cheryl A. Parker and Karen S. Lemke, both of Jamestown, and Diane L. Hopper of West Greenwich; one son, Roger L. Parker of Ashaway; one sister, Dorcas Pepi of Sun City West, Ariz.; seven grandchildren; one great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
