Tall ship arrives in Newport tomorrow

The Coast Guard cutter Eagle, a three-masted sailing barque with 21,350 square feet of sail, arrives in Newport on Friday, Aug. 3. Eagle is the only square-rigged sailing ship in United States government service.

The public is welcome to greet the tall ship as it enters Newport Harbor to tie up at Newport State Pier at approximately 10 a.m. The Eagle will be open for free public tours on Friday from 1 to 4 p.m., Saturday from 1 to 7 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Eagle will depart Newport on Monday, Aug. 6, for New London, Conn., its hometown.
