‘How to Succeed in Business’ opens Wednesday

The Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize-winning musical “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying,” which recently enjoyed a successful revival on Broadway, opens at Theatre by the Sea on Wednesday, Aug.15.

From the authors of “Guys and Dolls,” the musical is a satire of big business. It follows the rise of J. Pierrepont Finch, who uses a little handbook called “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying” to climb the corporate ladder from lowly window washer to high-powered executive.

Ocean State Theatre Company is celebrating its fifth anniversary season as the nonprofit producing entity at the historic Theatre by the Sea. Lennie Watts, who appeared last season in “The Drowsy Chaperone,” will direct the musical.

Erik Keiser, who played Ren McCormack in the 10th anniversary national tour of “Footloose,” makes his debut. He will portray J. Pierrepont Finch.

“How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying” will be presented through Sept. 2. Previews are scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 15, at 8 p.m., and Thursday, Aug. 16, at 2 and 8 p.m. Opening weekend performances will be held on Friday at 8 p.m., Saturday at 4:30 and 8:30 p.m., and Sunday at 3 and 8 p.m. All other performances will be held Tuesday through Friday at 8 p.m., Thursdays at 2 p.m., Saturdays at 4:30 and 8:30 p.m., and Sundays at 5 p.m. For tickets, call 782-8587 or visit TheaterByTheSea.com.
