Auditions Sunday for ‘Once Upon a Mattress’

The Jamestown Community Theatre will hold auditions for its upcoming November musical titled “Once Upon a Mattress” on Sunday, Aug. 19, at the Jamestown Recreation Center. All those auditioning must be Jamestown residents or work in Jamestown.

“Once Upon a Mattress” is a musical comedy that opened off Broadway in May 1959. The play was written as an adaptation of the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale, “The Princess and the Pea.”

There will be a mandatory meeting at 3 p.m. for parents of minors who plan to be in the play. Auditions for children ages 7 to 12 will begin at 3:30 p.m. They will be asked to memorize a poem or monologue 10 to 12 lines long. Auditions for teens and adults begin at 4 p.m. They should be prepared to read from a script. Those who would like to sing in the play should prepare a song of their choice. All singers must bring sheet music for the accompanist.

Rehearsals will begin in early September and will be held two to three times each week. Performances will be held on the second and third weekend of November. For more information, call Julie Andrews at 560-0474.
