Chamber event will be held on 122-foot Lynx
The Jamestown Chamber of Commerce will hold an educational event dockside at the 122- foot Lynx with appetizers, refreshments and tours on Friday, Sept. 14, at 6:30 p.m.
Lynx is an interpretation of a privateer of the same name built by Thomas Kemp in 1812 in Fell’s Point, Md. It was among the first ships to defend American freedom by evading the British naval fleet, then blockading American ports and serving in the privateering efforts. Although captured early in the war, the original design was recognized as superior. The ship is fitted with period ordnance and flies pennants and flags from the 1812 era. The square-top sail schooner acts as a dynamic educational platform and provides a unique opportunity for students to learn from a hands-on experience.
