Jamestowners will go to the polls next week for the Democratic primary. Nine candidates are competing for the right to run on the Democratic ticket for one of five Town Council seats in the general election in November.
Four incumbents face five challengers. The incumbents are Bob Bowen, Bill Murphy, Mike Schnack and Mike White. The challengers are George Levesque, Gene Mihaly, Mary Meagher, Kristine Trocki and Tom Tighe.
We applaud all of the candidates for their dedication to public service in Jamestown. Serving on the Jamestown Town Council is not an easy task. The job requires a major time commitment and is often a thankless position. Council members receive a small stipend, so candidates certainly are not seeking the job for the money.
Look in this newspaper for statements from each of the nine candidates about what they hope to accomplish if elected. Please read the statements and then vote in the primary on Tuesday, Sept. 11.
