Ft. Getty makes camper forget ‘Newport exists’

I read with interest the article on Aug. 9 (“RV park staying at Fort Getty”) concerning the RV camp at Fort Getty. For the last two years, my husband and I have tented at the park, enjoying its beauty and informality. We have found both gentlemen at the gate to be warm and helpful. Fort Getty is a special spot that makes it easy to forget that Newport exists. I hope that as the town considers plans to reconfigure, it gives thought to those who tent. We have enjoyed the sense of community there and would hate to look elsewhere in the future.
