Busy summer ends at Jamestown library

This summer has also been a great season for the Jamestown Philomenian Library. It has been very busy with activities and renovating our appearance.

We had more than 105 children sign up for the summer reading program, sponsored by the state of Rhode Island and the Friends of the Jamestown Library. This year, the library held a reading program for teens that included films, activities and reading goals. The books are very often required reading for school. The Friends of the Jamestown Library provided great prizes and rewards for participation and meeting reading goals. We hope to include adults next year, so be sure you don’t get left out.

The well-known summer book sale was held in mid-July and was once again a tremendous success. This supplies the library with some needed funding for programming and materials. We want to thank everyone who made our book sale so successful and popular: the Friends of the Jamestown Library and community members who help man the sales table, those who donated books, those who purchased books, and all the volunteers who sorted and set up the great display of books. We are now accepting donations for our holiday sale of barely used books for green gifts. Wrapping will be done by the Friends of the Jamestown Library at the beginning of December.

Thanks to the town of Jamestown we have had some changes to our appearance as well, which only enhances the beauty of the building itself. New doors were installed to the parking lot entrance. A beautiful new sign has been installed on the front lawn for all you and the many travelers who visit our community. And the most excited news is what you don’t see – a new furnace has replaced the 20-year-old one.

The library has a new website as well: JamestownPhilomenian Library.org. It will keep you informed about the great programs the Friends of the Jamestown Library sponsor, children’s story hours, books discussions, and the most recent film releases shown in the meeting hall. Please stop in or visit our website to see what is going on.
