Jamestown children lose ‘fine advocate’

Congratulations to all those who ran in the recent Democratic primary. After serving on the Jamestown School Committee for the past five years, I have a great deal of respect for anyone who wishes to serve their community in an elected position. Thanks to the outgoing councilors and good luck to the candidates.

Though I wish the best of luck to the Democrats in the November general election, I must note that Jamestown has lost an advocate for the education of children of this town. Michael White has served as the Town Council liaison to the School Committee for many years. He has attended all or most of the bimonthly meetings without fail and with good cheer through thick and thin.

Whenever the School Committee met with the Town Council to discuss budgets, goals or recent developments, Mr. White provided a clear voice of reason with a deep knowledge of town matters as well as school matters. I, for one, will miss his good humor, wisdom, civility and dedication to town service in our meetings. The children have lost a fine advocate.
