Islander certified by hospital association

Jamestowner Dennis Owens was recently named a certified healthcare environmental services professional by the American Hospital Association. The recognition is a national credential that distinguishes an individual as being among the elite in the healthcare environmental services profession.

Owens has a master’s degree from University of Rhode Island and has held environmental services leadership positions at several healthcare and higher education institutions in Rhode Island. He has served on the Jamestown Republican Town Committee and the Harbor Commission. He lives in Jamestown with his wife, Deborah.

To earn the distinction, individuals must satisfy eligibility requirements that incorporate a blend of professional experience and education. They must also agree to adhere to the AHA’s professional standards of conduct, and pass the certification exam. The test assesses knowledge required of a competent healthcare environmental services manager Additionally, individuals must demonstrate their continued professional development and commitment to their career by maintaining the certification through participation in professional development activities.
