Mary- Frances (Leddy) Byerly
Mary- Frances (Leddy) Byerly, 92, of Jamestown, passed away Sept. 29, 2012, after a lifetime of service to her country, her family and her fellow man. She was the wife of the late Clyde R. Byerly. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late James and Frances (Nolan) Leddy.
Mrs. Byerly was employed as a legislative secretary for the late U.S. Sen. John O. Pastore. She served as a secretary to the general counsel of the U.S. Senate Small Business Committee, a judicial secretary to President Judge Peter Krehel of Northumberland County, Penn., and an administrative assistant to the president of Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, Penn. For 20 years Mary served as the director and sign-language instructor for the James L. Maher Center’s blacklight performance, “Christmas In Sign.”
She is survived by her two sons, Ronald H. Byerly and his wife Luann of Danville, Penn., and Garrett J. Byerly and his wife Maria of Attleboro, Mass.; and three grandchildren, Garrett J. Byerly Jr., Lauren K. Byerly and Matthew G. Byerly. She was the sister of William J. Leddy of Rumford and the late James A. Leddy and Catherine Barney.
During her long and active life she pursued and enjoyed golf, sailing, politics, sign language and traveling with her family.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian burial on Saturday, Oct. 6, at 11 a.m. in St. Mark Church. Visiting hours are Friday, Oct. 5, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Nardolillo Funeral Home Boston Neck Road in Narragansett. Burial will be in St. Mark Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the James L. Maher Center, 120 Hillside Ave., Newport, RI 02840, or St. Mark Church, 60 Narragansett Ave., Jamestown, RI 02835.
