North Kingstown fall roundup

• The North Kingstown varsity football team fell to 1-6 in the division after getting blown out by Shea on Saturday, 34-0. The Raiders (5-4) got off to a fast start, scoring 20 unanswered points in the first quarter. Shea’s Aaron Rodrigues ran for two touchdowns and threw for another in the rout. The Skippers are now 2-7 overall and hope to close out the season on a high note when they host rival South Kingstown on Thanksgiving. The Rebels, who are winless this season at 0-8, are coming off a 17-14 loss to East Providence.

• The North Kingstown varsity field hockey team lost 5-1 to East Greenwich in the first round of the Division-I state championship last week. Marielle Kraft recorded a hat trick for the Avengers. Emma Simmons scored North Kingstown’s lone goal. Goalkeepers Gabrielle Caldwell and Kaela Kennedy each made four saves for the Skippers. North Kingstown finished the season 10-6-1.

• The North Kingstown girls’ varsity cross-country team finished fourth out of 18 teams at the state championship last week held at Ponaganset High School. Of 140 runners, Emma McMillan of Barrington High won individual honors, finishing the 5K with a time of 18:22.99. The top finishers from North Kingstown were freshman Bethany Nunnery (17th place), senior Aisha McAdams (19th), junior Jaxine Wolfe (34th) and sophomore Isabella Perrin (26th). Barrington won the meet.

• The North Kingstown boys’ varsity cross-country team finished seventh out of 18 teams at the state championship last week held at Ponaganset High School. Of 141 runners, Trevor Crawley of Cumberland won individual honors, finishing the 5K with a time of 15:39.47. The top finishers from North Kingstown were junior Dallin Smith (29th place), junior Robert Rocchio (31st), junior Ben Stewart (34th) and junior Jonathan Carney (35th). Bishop Hendricken won the meet.

• The North Kingstown boys’ junior varsity cross-country team finished fifth out of 23 teams at the JV state championship on Oct. 27 at Ponaganset High School. Of 408 runners, Jack Salisbury of La Salle won individual honors. North Kingstown’s top finishers were junior Zach Emrich (19th place), sophomore Alex Bowen (25th), junior Jack Hiebner (26th) and senior Nicholas Tierney (55th). La Salle won the meet.

• The North Kingstown girls’ junior varsity cross-country team finished second out of 19 teams at the JV state championship on Oct. 27 at Ponaganset High School. Of 242 runners, Elise Papazian of La Salle won individual honors. Thirteen Skippers finished the meet in the top 50, including freshman Caroline Rocchio (fourth place), freshman Kate Thomas (eighth), freshman Alanah Gaudreau (11th) and junior Peyton Wallace (16th).

• The North Kingstown boys’ varsity soccer team lost 1-0 to Bishop Hendricken in the first round of the Division-I state championship on Nov. 1. Hendricken’s Brandon Silvestri scored the game’s lone goal. The Skippers finished the season 7-2-5.

• The North Kingstown girls’ varsity soccer team lost 3-1 to Bay View in the second round of the Division-I state championship Saturday. The Skippers had a bye in the first round. Gaby Smith, Alie Guilmette and Chrissy Conley scored in the victory. Bridget Skerry netted North Kingstown’s only goal. Goalkeeper Erica Edwards made six saves for the Skippers. North Kingstown finished the season 8-3-4.
