Boat parade along Newport waterfront Friday
The 15th annual Newport Harbor Illuminated Boat Parade will take place on Friday, Nov. 23, at 6:15 p.m. Spectators can view the nautical holiday display along Newport Harbor’s waterfront from the Newport Yacht Club, Perrotti Park, Bowen’s Wharf and Bannister’s Wharf.
There is no charge to view the parade. Gordon Murphy, former owner of Murphy Marine and a longtime fixture on Newport’s waterfront, will serve as grand marshall.
At 6 p.m., parade boats will rendezvous just south of the Goat Island causeway and proceed east leaving Newport Yacht Club. Boats will then travel south along the downtown waterfront and then turn around to return to the Goat Island area.
The parade will feature a variety of watercraft that call Narragansett Bay home including leisure boats of all sizes, commercial fishing boats, tug boats, and Coast Guard and Navy vessels. Decorated vessels will compete for prizes in numerous categories.
If the weather is questionable, a recorded message will be available at 845-5815. Anyone interested in getting involved with the boat parade should contact Newport Harbormaster Tim Mills at 845-5815.
