Holiday spirit was evident at craft fair
The Conanicut Island Art Association has just closed another successful holiday craft fair, the latest in its 38 years of serving the community. During the noon hours, there was not a parking space available within a block of the Melrose Avenue School, and the hall was filled with the hum of happy shoppers.
Even more impressive was the spirit shown by the crafters arriving Friday evening to set up their displays. There were warm greetings and hugs exchanged by people who have participated year after year, and welcoming hands lent to vendors joining us for the first time. There was a community effort coming together, and this, to me, is the true holiday spirit.
CIAA owes abundant thanks to co-chairs Shirley Bell and Alexandra Kent, who once again lent their time and considerable talent to plan this event. We also like to thanks all the volunteers who gave many hours of their time to help; the crafting artisans, who make the fair successful; the gifted artists who participated in the little picture show; and all of the people who come in and shop and make it all possible. Thank you and happy holidays to all.
