Visa now accepted at Rhode Island DMVs
Customers may now use a Visa credit card when transacting business at the state Division of Motor Vehicles. Gov. Lincoln Chafee calls the move another step designed to streamline the DMV experience.
“We’re continuing to make improvements at DMV,” said Chafee. “By adding Visa, customers have another way to make a convenient payment without worrying about bringing cash or writing a check to cover their DMV transaction.”
DMV began accepting MasterCard,
Discover and American Express last April. There is a minimum service fee of $1.50 per transaction. A service fee of 2.35 percent will be applied for each transaction $64 and over. The state of Rhode Island does not keep any portion of this fee – a third-party provider benefits from the proceeds. No debit cards are accepted at the DMV.
