Saints hand Skippers first loss of season

Despite another double-double from Jamestown resident Owen Heath, the North Kingstown boys’ varsity basketball team was overwhelmed by St. Raphael guard Charles Correa. The senior poured in 40 points for the Saints on Jan. 25 and helped hand the Skippers their first loss of the season.

Correa, a two-time, first-team All State selection, shot 8-14 from the 3-point line and a perfect 8-8 from the free-throw line. He also added eighth rebounds, seven assists and five steals in St. Ray’s 68-66 win.

Up nine points at the half, 32- 23, North Kingstown (16-1 overall, 12-1 league) watched as Correa scored 28 in the second half to erase the nine-point deficit. The Saints improved to 5-7 in league play.

Owen Heath led the Skippers with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Also scoring in double figures for North Kingstown was Justin Pratt with 16 and Austin Barry with 10.

The Skippers were back in action last night against La Salle (10-4, 10-2). They will host Hendricken on Friday, Feb. 1, at 7 p.m. Hendricken is in third place in Division I-South, four games behind first-place North Kingstown.
