Volunteers needed to feed county’s hungry
Newport’s Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center is organizing a Newport Country Fund Collaborative to partner with community stakeholders fighting hunger. As a result, a new program has been created to deliver food pantry groceries to people who are unable to visit the food pantry in person.
In 2012, the center distributed more than 113,000 meals at the food pantry. However, the center recognizes that there are still many hungry and homebound Newport County neighbors who can’t get to the pantry and need help.
Training will be held Tuesday, Feb. 5, from 10 a.m. to noon at the center. For more information, call Susan Wells at 378-7595.
