Boys’ varsity basketball clinches league title

With a 63-51 win over Bishop Hendricken Friday, the North Kingstown boys’ varsity basketball team clinched the Division I-Southern League title. The Skippers led by as much as 21 points in the second half. They improved to 18-2 (13-2 league) on the season.

The Skippers welcomed the return leading scorer and Jamestown resident Owen Heath, who was out of the lineup the previous game with an illness. The Skippers lost to La Salle with Heath absent, 53- 46, on Jan. 30. It was North Kingstown’s lowest scoring game of the season.

Heath contributed nine points and 14 rebounds in the win against Hendricken. Justin Pratt scored a game-high 18 points, and also scoring in double figures were Matt Quianoo and Austin Barry.

The Skippers were back in action Wednesday against South Kingstown. (Results not available at press time.) They host Cranston West on Friday in the regular-season finale. Tipoff is at 7 p.m.
