Volunteers needed to clean battery Saturday

Volunteers are needed on Saturday, March 2, to help clean up the Conanicut Battery. Participants can show up for any amount of time between 9 a.m. and noon. Organizers ask that volunteers bring lopping shears and wear sturdy clothing. There will be thorny vegetation that will have to be removed. The goal of the cleanup is to finish clearing vines and brush from around the Bicentennial Library Tree, a weeping beech that was planted in 1976. Organizers also hope to clear trails that were closed by fallen trees during the recent storms.
