Boys’ hockey will play in semifinals Friday at URI
The North Kingstown High School boys’ varsity hockey team advanced to the state’s Division II semifinals after defeating North Smithfield 2-1 in the best-of-three series. In the first game of the series on March 1, North Kingstown’s Hayden Lyle scored the game-tying goal with just a second left in the third period. He then scored the game-winner at 3:38 of overtime while the Skippers were shorthanded.
North Smithfield evened the series the following night with a 5-2 win, but the Skippers’ senior captain and leading scorer Adam Nabb scored the game’s only goal midway through the third period of the third and deciding game Monday.
North Kingstown goaltender Jarod
Parkins stopped all 29 shots he faced in the game. The freshman made 94 saves in the three-game series.
The Skippers will face off against Prout on Friday, March 8, at 8 p.m. at URI’s Boss Arena. The second game will take place the following night at 8 p.m. at Boss Arena. The deciding game, if necessary, has yet to be announced.
