Mary (May) Haughey

Mary (May) Haughey, 92, passed peacefully on Feb. 26, 2013, leaving behind family and friends who, while saddened by the loss, are grateful for her long and healthy life.

May was born and raised in Jamestown, spending her first years at Fort Wetherill where her father was stationed with the U.S. Army. The family then relocated to Howland Avenue. She attended the Carr and Clarke schools, and Rogers High School.

She was the last of her generation. She was daughter of the late James and Ellen (Brennan) Toomey, sister to the late Elizabeth Sullivan and Col. James Toomey Jr., U.S. Air Force.

While now reunited with those who went before, she leaves behind many who mourn her passing. She was mother of Jacqueline D’Auria and her husband, John, grandma to Ellen D’Auria (Brian Wright) and Geoff D’Auria, greatgrandmother to Jonah and Aidan Wright, and aunt to Barbara Carey (Rick Carey), Chas M. Sullivan (Colleen), Cathey and Brennan Toomey and their families.

In recent years, Mary was cared for by the devoted staff of both Blenheim Assisted Living in Middletown and St. Clare Home in Newport. She was grateful to Dr. Joe England for his excellent care.

Her funeral was held at St. Mark Church and burial followed at St. Columba cemetery in Middletown.

Any donations in her memory should be sent to the Jamestown Senior Center.
