CIAA offers $5,000 grant to graduating artist

Conanicut Island Art Association is offering a scholarship of $5,000 to a graduating high school senior. To be eligible, the student must be a resident of Newport County. Candidates must submit photographs of a minimum of six artworks during high school. Photographs of 3-D work should be from different angles. Information on medium, size and weight must be provided for each work. Also required is a statement of 300 words or less describing the experience of creating the work and any future arts plan. Deadline is May 17. Submission should be mailed to CIAA, Wendy Crooks, 7 Hull St., Jamestown, RI 02835.

Applications available for Stone Scholarship

Applications are now available for the Elizabeth Stone Scholarship, a one-time award for expenses associated with the freshman year at an accredited four-year college. As many as four scholarships of at least $1,000 may be awarded this year. To be eligible, applicants must be Jamestown residents who have been accepted to college. Applications are available at the offices of the Jamestown schools and the guidance office at North Kingstown High. Deadline for application submission is May 15.

Musicians encouraged to apply for chorus grant

Applications are now being accepted by the Jamestown Community Chorus for its annual music award. This year there will be two $500 grants awarded, one each for a student and adult. Applicants do not need to live in Jamestown, but must be active in the island’s music community. To be considered, applicants can play a solo instrument or be the member of a band, church choir, musical theater or community chorus. Money from the award can be used for instructional books, lessons, workshops, undergraduate education, or any other expenses related to music development. Applications are available at the library. Deadline is April 12. The grants will be presented at the community chorus’ spring concert in May. Call Agnes Filkins at 423-1464 for more information.

Seniors eligible for Carlisle Scholarship

Applications for the Leigha Carlisle Scholarship are available at the North Kingstown High School guidance office. Leigha’s father, Clayton, established the scholarship in her memory and it has provided many Jamestowners with college funding. To be eligible, applicants must be graduating Jamestown residents who plan to attend college in the fall. Completed applications should be dropped off at the Lawn Avenue School, attention Beth Weibust, by April 11.

Women’s club accepting scholarship applications

The Jamestown Women’s Club is now accepting applications for two $1,000 scholarships. Applicants must be graduating seniors from Jamestown who plan to attend college in the fall. Scholarship forms are available at the Jamestown Philomenian Library. Completed applications should be sent to the Jamestown Women’s Club, P.O. Box 412, Jamestown, RI 02835. Deadline is May 12.

Realtors offer two $1,000 awards to seniors

The Newport County Board of Realtors is offering two $1,000 scholarships for college-bound students residing in Newport County. The award is based on a combination of financial need, scholastics and extracurricular activities. Eligible students don’t have to attend a Newport County school. Applications are at all local high schools and at NewportRealtor.com.
