Chorus donates nine opera DVDs to library

The Jamestown Community Chorus recently donated nine DVDs to the Jamestown Philomenian Library, an annual tradition that has brought music-related gifts to the library since 1990.

This year’s donation is nine discs of notable operas. Most contain full-length Metropolitan Opera performances, including Mozart’s “The Magic Flute” and “The Marriage of Figaro”; Puccini’s “La Boheme”; Verdi’s “La Traviata”; Donizetti’s “L’Elisir d’Amore”; Wagner’s “Die Walkure”; and Bizet’s “Carmen.”

Additional items include the “Metropolitan Opera Centennial Gala” and a DVD of the Broadway show “Rent,” which is based on “La Boheme.”

The chorus has donated more than 100 items to the library in the last 13 years, including music CDs, DVDs and Great Courses recordings. The new DVDs will be available for checkout in about three weeks. Each may be taken out for a week at a time.
