Earth Day cleanup scheduled for April 20

The Conservation Commission will once again organize its annual Earth Day cleanup on Saturday, April 20. Anyone interested in helping clean Jamestown’s shorelines should meet at the recreation center at 8:30 a.m.

Volunteers will be assigned to teams and scattered around the island to 12 access points, including shorelines at East Ferry, Potters Cove, Sunset Beach, Fort Getty, Mackerel Cove, Hull Cove, Sheffield Cove and West Ferry.

Slice of Heaven will serve a continental breakfast prior to the cleanup and local lunch fare will be offered following the event. Island Rubbish will provide the trash removal.

Everyone should dress appropriately and bring gloves. People with pickup trucks are asked to bring them to help transport the bags of garbage. Last year more than 2,500 pounds of trash was transported from the shoreline to the dumpster.
