Elizabeth Anne Purdum
Elizabeth Anne Purdum, 52, “Libby” to her family and friends, passed away on April 4, 2013, at her home in North Stonington, Conn. Libby was the daughter of the late Capt. William H. Purdum, U.S. Navy, and Elizabeth Frantz Purdum of Jamestown.
Born in New London, Conn., Libby was among the first to attend preschool for the developmentally disabled at Uncas-on-Thames, a division of Seaside Regional Center in Norwich, Conn., in 1970. She transferred to Seaside’s main campus in Waterford, Conn., in October 1974. In 1990, she joined the Whole Life Community at its group home in North Stonington.
She loved animals and was known for her homemade dog biscuits and horse treats. Her unique personality often made any situation a moment to remember. Libby developed into a strong and whole person with the generous help of all who worked with her. She will be sadly missed by her housemates Reggie, Karen and Debra, and her many professionals and helpers at Whole Life Community.
Besides her mother, she is survived by brother Frederick W. Purdum of Waterford; sister Rebecca Purdum and husband Thomas Moran of Ripton, Vt.; and brother Edward Purdum, wife Suzanne and children Isabel and Harrison of South Lake, Texas.
She will be remembered always by her aunt and uncle, Lois and Claude Frantz of Greensburg, Penn., and her aunt Florence Purdum of Woodland Hills, Calif.
A funeral Mass will be offered at St. Thomas More Catholic Church on 87 Mystic Road in North Stonington at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 19. Her burial will be private.
