Lacrosse standout scores 100th career goal

KALYEIGH ROONEY KALYEIGH ROONEY Jamestowner Kalyeigh Rooney was recently named athlete of the week at Providence Country Day School for her performances on the lacrosse field.

The senior scored seven goals in a game against St. Andrew’s on April 24, including her 100th career goal in a Knights uniform.

“It was great that the team came together, especially since we weren’t playing well in the first half,” said Rooney.

PCD led 7-6 at the break, but came out strong to start the second half. The Knights outscored the Saints 11-1 to close out the game, en route to an 18-7 victory.

On reaching the milestone with the help of her teammates in the last game of her senior year, Kayleigh said, “I don’t think any other team would have done that for me.”

“As a ninth- grader, Kayleigh expressed clearly her goal to achieve the 100-goal mark during her career at PCD,” said head coach Alanna Morris. “One-hundred goals is a mark of a truly accomplished goal scorer and hasn’t been done here since 2008. During her lacrosse career, Kayleigh has been a tireless worker always focused on improving her own skills and play. She has also focused on helping the PCD lacrosse program grow through being a leader to her teammates and the middle school team where she can often be seen on the sidelines. We as coaches are very proud of Kayleigh and congratulate her on this great achievement.”
