Save the Bay Swim sets new course
With all of the federal budget chaos these days due to the sequester, it seemed that the 37th annual Save the Bay Swim would suffer the same fate as the Quonset Air Show – cancellation.
The U.S. Navy pulled the plug on its participation in hosting the start of the annual swim across the bay. That left Save the Bay organizers scrambling.
But the event will continue. With both the start and finish now hosted at the Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority, swimmers will get to compete on a triangular course that is the same distance as the former swim across the bay.
The annual swim is a vital fund raiser for Save the Bay and celebrates the ongoing efforts to clean up our ocean. We’re pleased to see that it will continue.
