Revolutionary War comes alive Saturday


Re-enactors will take to Conanciut Battery Historic Park Saturday and fire muskets and cannons in a modernization of the Revolutionary War.

PHOTO BY ROSEMARY ENRIGHT The annual Battery Day obser­vance will be held on Saturday, May 18, at 1 p.m. at Conanicut Battery Historic Park. The event will feature entertainment for all ages including music, cannon and musket fire, and re-enactments of the Revolutionary War.

Maj. William Blodgett, Gen. Nathaniel Greene’s aide, will em­cee the proceedings. The Newport Artillery will return to re-enact the skirmish. Capt. Tew’s 1st Com­pany of the 2nd Rhode Island Regiment will set up an authentic Revolutionary campsite. Lead­ing the military parade will be the color guard of Jamestown’s American Legion and VFW units.
