Battery Day a great success
On behalf of the Jamestown Historical Society, I would like to thank those who contributed to making the 2013 Conanicut Battery Day such a success.
Jamestown’s chapters of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion who provided the color guard, the Jamestown Community Band for their wonderful patriotic music, the Jamestown Arts Center for the use of their chairs, our parking team, headed by Dennis Webster and Zachary Neronha, Rev. Kevin Lloyd, rector of St. Matthew’s Church for the invocation, Bruce Long for the Del’s Lemonade, Jamestown Cub Scouts, Pack 1, and, of course, the reenactors who added so much interest, excitement, and meaning to the ceremony.
It was most fitting that this year’s Battery Day was held on Armed Forces Day. Those who attended were filled with a sense of pride and patriotism for the many sacrifices that have been and continue to be made to secure our freedom. It certainly reminded us of the many things we have to be grateful for, particularly, as we head into Memorial Day weekend. Conanicut Battery Day was very moving and enjoyable experience thanks to all of you!
