Ruggiero secures seed money for community farm
Rep. Deborah Ruggiero has secured a $500 legislative grant for the Jamestown Community Farm.
Ruggiero recently presented the grant to the farm, which is using the money to purchase seeds, according to Jamestown Community Farm Board President Deborah Foppert.
“The grant was a surprise, but then again, it wasn’t really surprising for us, because of how much she does for us,” said Foppert of Rep. Ruggiero. “She really gets involved and supports us in so many ways, including coming to the farm and getting her hands dirty.”
Jamestown Community Farm, now in its 13th season, grows food for those in need and sells some produce to the public to cover its operating costs. The volunteer organization delivers to food pantries and soup kitchens in Jamestown, Newport, Charlestown, Peacedale and Providence.
“I couldn’t be happier to have the opportunity to support the Jamestown Community Farm. It’s such a great group of very dedicated volunteers, and the good that they do in providing fresh, healthy delicious food for people in our community and beyond is just incredible,” said Rep. Ruggiero.
