Thompson excels on Abbey track
Julia Thompson, of Jamestown, gave the best performances in her four-year track career at Portsmouth Abbey last weekend at the New England Prep School Track and Field Division III Championships. According to track coach Allie Micheletti, Thompson scored points for her team in every event that she ran: finishing the day with two sixth-place finishes in the 4X100 and 4X400 relays as well as two individual fifth places in both the 100m hurdles and the 300m hurdles events. Her performances also landed her as the fourth fastest female in the history of the school in her respective events.
Thompson was the only four- year member of the track team this year and as captain she led her team with determination and a solid effort in every race she ran, Micheletti said. She won first place in the EIL league meet in the 300m hurdles and helped lead her team to a second place finish overall. Julia was an integral member of the team and her leadership will be missed next season, Micheletti added.
In September, Thompson will be attending the College of Charleston in Charleston, SC. She is the daughter of Pamela Storey and James Thompson of Jamestown.
