Fisherman dies after fall from rocks at Hull Cove
A 22-year-old fisherman died Monday after he slipped off the rocks into the water while fishing at Hull Cove. The man was reportedly in the water 45 minutes before being recovered.
According to Police Chief Ed Mello, officers responded to a report around 2 p.m. that Toua Thoa, of Leominster, Mass., had fallen into the waters on the east side of Jamestown. The United States Coast Guard, as well as rescue vessels from North Kingstown, Portsmouth, East Greenwich, Providence and Newport, was deployed to the area in search of the victim.
At about 2:45 p.m., the Coast Guard recovered Thoa from Mackerel Cove and began life-saving measures aboard its vessel. He was then transported to Newport Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
