Eighth-graders invited to ice-cream social at NKHS
The Varsity Athletes Against Substance Abuse recently visited Lawn Avenue School to speak with eighth-graders about what to expect next year as freshman at North Kingstown High School. The group, which includes Jamestowners Garrett Bucklin, Ben Stewart, Roma Patel, Holly Bobola and Amina Brown, talked about issues surrounding high schoolers such as time and stress management. They also discussed the dangers of alcohol and drug use, and gave an overview of some of the clubs they can get involved with next year at North Kingstown High.
Members of VAASA also encouraged Jamestown students to meet and greet with North Kingstown eighth-graders who will also attend the high school in September. The ice-cream social will take place on Friday,
June 14, at 6 p.m. at North Kingstown High. The event is open to all students graduating from Jamestown and North Kingstown middle schools. Members of the Varsity Athletes Against Substance Abuse will be on hand to welcome the eighth- graders to the school.
The VAASA students also went to Wickford Middle School to speak to eighth-graders about the same issues.
