Spinnaker problems for Gold Digger (above) on the final day of racing last week allowed Challenge IV to pull ahead and win the J/44 class at the 25th annual Block Island Race Week. Gold Digger, owned and skippered by islander Jim Bishop, went into the final day leading Challenge IV by three points, but high winds the following day gave the boat some issues. Gold Digger finished second. “In a good breeze we excel,” said Jeff Willis, skipper of Challenge IV. “We’ve had the same crew for a long time, some of them for 25 years. Everyone knows what to do in those situations.”
