Lawmakers get tough on driving and texting

The General Assembly last week approved legislation that increases the penalties for texting while driving. Under the bill, the first offense is an $85 fine or a license suspension for up to 30 days, or both; second offense is a $100 fine or a license suspension for up to three months, or both; subsequent offenses are a $125 fine or a license suspension of up to six months, or both.
