Theater auditions planned for July 28
Auditions for the Jamestown Community Theatre’s production of “Dear Edwina” will be held on Sunday, July 28, at the Jamestown Arts Center. There are roles for adults, teens and children over 7 years old. Everyone is urged to try out, experienced or beginner.
Those interested in joining the chorus should arrive at 6 p.m. Anyone 16 years and younger who wants to join the chorus must memorize and recite a monologue or poem no more than 15 lines. Those older than 16 have no preparation to join the chorus. A mandatory meeting will follow at 6:45 p.m. for all interested crew members, actors, singers and dancers. Anyone 17 or younger must be accompanied by an adult.
Auditions for small, large and lead dance rolls will take place at 7 p.m. Candidates must prepare a one- to two-minute song to sing or dance to. Each person is responsible for bringing their own sheet music if they plan on having piano accompaniment. Auditions are open to anyone who lives or works in Jamestown.
The operetta-style musical the JCT will perform is the full, unedited version that was played off Broadway, with music by Zina Goldrich and lyrics by Marcy Heisler. Performances will be held the third and fourth weekend in November. Rehearsals start in September and will be held on Sunday afternoons, and Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. At 1 hour, 15 minutes long, “Dear Edwina” is shorter than previous JCT productions, so rehearsals will generally be shorter than they have in the past.
A callback audition will be held on Sept. 8 for residents new to the island. Rehearsals will begin Sept. 15. Those interested in becoming a crew member should call Wright ASAP at 741-9818.
