Residents asked to fill out rec survey
What park, beach or ball field is your favorite on the island? How often to you go? With who? How do you get there?
Those are just some of the inquiries posed to residents on a 25-question survey recently released by the town. The survey – which can be found as an insert in each Jamestown Press this week that is mailed to a resident’s home – is part of the town’s attempt to improve its Parks & Recreation Department. (The survey can also be found online at the town’s website.) Completed forms need to be returned to Town Hall by Aug. 16 so consultants can continue their comprehensive study on recreational facilities and programs.
As a way to improve recreation on the island, the Town Council decided to hire two consultants from the UMass Edward J. Collins Jr. Center for Public Management. The consultants scheduled three community forums so residents could give input, both positive and critical.
Before the first forum was held on July 16, Town Administrator Bruce Keiser worried that residents wouldn’t attend the indoor meetings because they were in the middle of summer. He recommended the survey. The consultants agreed.
The next two meetings will take place on Tuesday, July 30, and Tuesday, Aug. 6. Next week’s forum will focus on recreational activities for adults and seniors. The Aug. 6 meeting will center on rec programs for youth and teens. Both meetings will run from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
