Man falls 70 feet while working on bridge

An employee of a subcontractor tasked with the steel painting and repair work of the Mount Hope Bridge fell approximately 70 feet Monday morning. He was transported to Rhode Island Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The bridge remained open.

According to officials at the Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority, work has stopped on both the Newport Pell and Mount Hope bridges pending a review of safety procedures and requirements.
