Property on island sells for more than $5M

A 3-acre property in Jamestown that offers a panoramic view of Narragansett Bay sold for $5.32 million last week, making it the highest sale in Newport County this year.

The Neville Leary Cottage sits high on an oceanfront perch overlooking the Newport Harbor. It was designed by the architectural firm of Harkness & Geddes in 1934. Mott & Chace Sotheby’s International Realty, which opened its Charlestown office in May, announced the sale on July 26.

“This record-breaking sale reaffirms that the choice waterfront properties along the desirable south coast of Rhode Island are very much in demand,” said sales associate Claudia Philbrick.
