Congratulations again to Jamestown’s Cal Ripken team for a great season and a great run in the state’s All-Star tournament. In last week’s blurb about the season, Finn Gaudreau was mistakenly omitted from the roster. Congratulations Finn!

Jamestown was way ahead of the food-truck trend thanks to Freddy Bing’s Hot Dog Thing and the Chopmist Charlie’s truck.

There is still time to complete the town’s recreation study. Visit the town’s website, and right on the homepage under “news and updates,” there is a link. You have until Friday, Aug. 16. The town wants to hear from everyone!

Are you rehearsing your act? Don’t forget the 24th annual talent show. Open auditions will take place Monday, Aug. 12, and Tuesday, Aug. 13. On both days, tryouts begin at 6:30 p.m. at the recreation center. The talent show itself, a summer island tradition, will take place on Thursday, Aug. 15, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $7 and will be available at the door. Seniors get a $2 discount. *** The Jamestown Soccer Association has opened registration for fall recreational play. This is the last week to take advantage of the early price reduction.

This week the island mourned the passing of a few who dedicated a lot of themselves to helping others. Bob Kinder, Paula Florentino and Edward Morinho will be missed.

The annual ice-cream social for all incoming military families will be Thursday, Aug. 15, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Jamestown library in the meeting room. Not only are all military families welcome, both old and new, but any resident who would like to welcome our new families can pop in.

The Jamestown Chamber of Commerce annual fundraiser at the Fort Getty pavilion is just a week away. This year it’s being dubbed the Bermuda Bash. Tickets can be purchased at Conanicut Marine Ship’s Store, Baker’s Pharmacy, Grapes & Gourmet, Jamestown Wine & Spirits, or Cathryn Jamieson Salon. Lots of great auction items. Buy your tickets now.

Another busy Saturday in town. Make sure to stop by the St. Mark summer festival for a snow cone on your way to the Fools’ Rules Regatta at East Ferry.

Teens are invited to view the PG-13 film “Pitch Perfect” on Wednesday, Aug. 14, at 4 p.m. Pizza will be served.

Favorite summer day trip: Vineyard Fast Ferry from Quonset with only a bike and backpack. Spend the day eating and biking through Martha’s Vineyard. There is a 6 p.m. ferry home. For dinner, order Seven Moons takeout from the dockside ferry parking lot and your day is complete. Enjoy the 90-minute ride aboard the new luxurious ferry.

The reggae festival at the Newport Yachting Center is Saturday. Take the ferry over from Jamestown.

Save the date: Don’t forget to come see the song and dance man on Thursday, Aug. 15, at the arts center at 8 p.m. Tickets for Jon Peterson’s performance can be purchased at Baker’s.
