Gerard Raymond Barrette
Gerard Raymond Barrette, 78, born in Woonsocket, died Aug. 5, 2013. He was the son of the late Noe and Irene (Proulx) Barrette. Formerly of Jamestown, he was residing in Port St. Lucie, Fla., with his beloved wife of 55 years, Annette (Boisseau) Barrette.
Gerry attended trade school, Brown University and the International Corresponding School. From 1951 to 1961, Gerry worked for Gilbane Building Company, first as a rodman, then a field engineer and assistant superintendent. Drafted into the U.S. Army in 1956, Gerry served until 1958 when he was honorably discharged. In 1962, Gerry worked for Dimeo Construction as a superintendent, then a project manager, project executive, vice president of operations, and finally as senior vice president of operations.
Gerry most enjoyed saltwater fishing. He was a member of a boat owners association and the Jamestown Chamber of Commerce. He was a parishioner of St. Mark Church and was president of the Jamestown Striper Club in 2000.
He is survived by his children, daughter Linda (Barrette) Healy and husband Paul, and son Denis Barrette and wife Leslie, all of Florida. Besides his wife, children and grandchildren, he leaves behind 13 siblings: Pauline Ethier, Ernest Barrette, Alice Leduc, Emile Barrette, Roland Barrette, Cecile Leclerc, Theresa Pelland, Jeanne Boffi, Helen Cloutier, Raymond Barrette, Rita Martin, Richard Barrette, and Susan Theroux.
A viewing will be held at Fagan Quinn Funeral Home in North Kingstown from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 9. A funeral will be held on Saturday, Aug. 10, at 2:30 p.m. at St. Mark Church in Jamestown. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mark Church or the South County Hospital intensive care unit in Wakefield.
