Registration open for road race over Newport Bridge
Registration is now open for the second annual Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority Pell Bridge Run that will take place on Nov. 10.
Thousands of participants are expected to turn out and take advantage of this once yearly opportunity to cross the Newport Pell Bridge on foot. The 4.2-mile run of will begin at 6:30 a.m. near the RITBA headquarters in Jamestown. After crossing the bridge, runners will pass through downtown Newport and cross the finish line at the Newport Yachting Center.
“Before formally opening registration, we had 500 entrants for the event,” said David Darlington, chairman of the bridge authority. “The success of last year’s race gave us good word of mouth, and we know people are eager to once again experience the incredible view of Narragansett Bay from the bridge that can normally be witnessed only by vehicle.”
The title sponsor of the race is Citizens Bank. Proceeds will benefit several Rhode Island nonprofits.
