Warriors, Celtics and Rockets win season openers


The Jamestown high-school basketball league plays three games each Saturday at the recreation center. Games begin at 11 a.m., noon and 1 p.m. Admission is free.

Photo by andrea von hohenleiten The Jamestown fall high-school basketball league started its second season last week, this year with two more teams for a total of six.

In the first game, the Warriors defeated the Raptors, 79-70. The Gillis cousins combined for 55 of the Warriors’ 79 points, with Jake scoring 34 and Grant pouring in 21. Spencer Bode scored a leaguerecord 40 points in the loss.

In the second game, the Celtics held off the Lakers, 55-54, in a game that came down to the final shot. Leading the way for the Celtics was James Williams, who scored 17 points. For the Lakers, Lucas Barth and Cam Moniz each scored 17 points in the loss.

In the third game, the Rockets, led by Isaiah Butler’s 24 points, beat the Bulls, 66-59. Greg Enos added 14 points in the win. Ryan Wirth had 14 points for the Bulls in a losing effort.

Games are played every Saturday at the recreation center. Admission is free. Games begin at 11 a.m., noon and 1 p.m.
