Celebrate island life at Jamestown Day

The Friends of Jamestown Youth invite all islanders to join them on Saturday, Sept. 28, for an evening of old-fashioned good times at Fort Getty.

Called “Jamestown Day,” the celebration is open to kids and adults of all ages. Activities get underway at 5 p.m. Organizers are planning something for everyone, so bring along the whole family.

Many events will center around the Fort Getty pavilion. After events end at the pavilion, there will be a big bonfire up on the hill once darkness falls. A disc jockey will be on hand to provide music.

The Friends promise an evening filled with plenty of island-based entertainment. The Jamestown Community Band is scheduled for a feature performance. Then Jamestown Community Theatre members will perform excerpts from upcoming shows. The Jamestown Community Chorus will also join the festivities.

Activities include miniature golf, a bouncy house and a cakewalk. There will also be favorites such as bingo, and face painting offered by the Jamestown Arts Center.

The Police and Fire departments will have equipment on hand for the kids to see.

If you are hungry, there will be lots of food. Pizza and hot dogs will be available for purchase. Participating vendors include Freddie’s House of Pizza and the East Ferry Deli.

Admission to Jamestown Day, which starts at 5 p.m. and ends at 10 p.m., will cost $5 per person. All of the proceeds, after expenses, will go to the Friends of Jamestown Youth, who remind everyone that the event is alcohol free.

Bring the kids to Jamestown Day and have a great time! We’ll see you there.
